Aloe Vera

Not just to put on your body, but even better to put in your body.

What is Aloe Vera?

Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis miller) originates from the lily family and is best known for its healing properties. In recent years, Aloe Vera has become immensely popular for its health, skincare, beauty, and medicinal properties.

What is in Aloe Vera?

The plant is made up of three layers:

1) An inner clear gel which consists of 9% water with the remaining parts being made up of amino acids, glucomannans, sterols, lipids, and vitamins.

2) The middle layer is made of latex, containing glycosides and anthraquinones.

3) Finally, the outer layer consists of 15 to 20 cells known as rind. It works to protect the inside layers of the leaf but also synthesises proteins and carbohydrates.

  • Enzymes
  • Minerals
  • Sugars

Immune system and skin

Aloe Vera has many benefits, including health, skincare, and beauty, all of which can be related in some way. You might not think it, but your skin can be the first clue that your immune system is struggling.

Your skin is your body’s first barrier against germs. The way it looks and feels is a reflection of how well your immune system is working. When your immune system becomes weakened it can sometimes trigger a reaction which can have a negative effect on the skin, and you can become more vulnerable to hypersensitivity, inflammation, allergic eczema, and contact dermatitis, to name a few.

When your immune system is compromised, it is harder to protect the skin from harmful bacteria and infections. Some people find they are more likely to break out within this period. Also, eczema sufferers and people with acne-prone skin will find they are more susceptible to flare-ups during this time.

Benefits of Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is scientifically proven to stimulate the immune system and kill infections. The Latex helps to restore the immune system. This is because Aloe Vera contains 20 different types of amino acids and enzymes. Also, it contains minerals such as iron, zinc, potassium, sodium, chromium and many more. Aloe Vera also contains vitamins such as A, B1, B2, B6, C, and E.

The amino acids help to kill bacteria and the antioxidants protect the immune system. Aloe Vera is also adept at building up the immune system gently, without causing allergic reactions or side effects (unless a specific allergy to Aloe Vera is known – albeit this is rare).

The natural healing properties of Aloe Vera are known to naturally soothe skin irritations including acne, eczema, and psoriasis to name a few. Aloe Vera juice, located in the Latex of the plant, contains vitamins and minerals which can help to cool, moisturize and relieve skin irritation.

Often referred to as the ‘miracle plant’, Aloe Vera can also be used for a range of different purposes, including:

  • Anti-aging skincare
  • Sunburn
  • Acne
  • Moisturiser
  • Aiding digestion
  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Accelerating gut healing
