Tips To Get Your Skin Ready for Spring

As we look to (finally) make our way out this pandemic, we can start to look at things with a bit more hope for the future. Hope and Spring go hand in hand – new life emerges from the mulch and rain of Winter. Seeds take root and trees and plants begin to sprout. With this new season comes changes in the air, pollen and heat, all of which can have a negative effect on your skin, if you don’t manage it right. With that in mind, here are some handy tips to help you get your skin ready for spring.

  • Spring Clean Your Skin

The cold, dry Winter air can cause a build-up of dead skin cells and environmental toxins that stick around in your skin long after the colder months have passed. Have a thorough cleanse and release them but don’t overdo it! If you have eczema, psoriasis or very sensitive skin, you’ll want to use a mild soap or shower gel (such as our Bioskin Face or Body Wash) that has moisturising properties. You can also use a very gentle sponge or brush, and if you find brushes with bristles too harsh, you could opt for a soft, silicone cleansing brush to release dead skin cells and stimulate circulation.

  • Use an Intensive Treatment

If your skin is still reeling from a long, cold winter, you can use an intensive treatment to give your skin a boost of deep hydration and nourishment. Our Zeoderm Skin Repair Moisturiser is perfect for this, as it is incredibly rich and full of vitamins and minerals. If you suffer from dry hands or feet, you could apply Zeoderm before bed and wear cotton socks or gloves, to really let the product work its magic. This of course also applies to any other areas of dryness on your body, which you could cover with soft, cotton clothing. For your face, you could always opt for a face mask – but if you find that a bit too faffy, an overnight treatment using Zeoderm generously would also do the trick.

  • Up the Nutrients – Inside & Out

If you suffer from an allergic skin condition and you find that your skin often flares up in spring, it’s important to start building up your skin’s resilience before your allergies hit their peak. Don’t wait any longer and start including more fruits and vegetables (especially dark leafy greens), high-quality proteins and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Supplementing can also be helpful – you can ask your GP or dermatologist if this would be beneficial for you. Finally, adding extra vitamins and minerals into your skincare routine can help keep your skin healthy and balanced. Consider a product like our DermaSpray, which is naturally rich in nutrients through its high concentration of natural oils and extracts.

  • Swap to a Lighter Moisturiser

Just as we say in winter, where you should swap to a heavier moisturiser for the protection it brings from the elements, as we go into Spring, you may feel your current moisturiser is a bit too much. A lighter moisturiser will hydrate your skin effectively, while still allowing it to breathe, without drying out.

  • Spring Cleaning

Do you tend to deep cleanse your home when spring comes along? Make sure you extend this not only to your skin, but also to your skincare products. Have a good clear-out and get rid of any products that have gone past their expiry date or have been opened for longer than the recommended number of months indicated on the packaging. Unused products that you don’t think will suit your skin but are within their expiry date can be donated to charities. You should also deep clean any cleansing or make-up tools you own. This, of course, is something we should all be doing regularly but we all know that life can get hectic. Wash reusable makeup cloths and pads in hot water along with any brushes, loofahs or mitts you use.

Hopefully, these tips will help your skin transition smoothly as the seasons change!
