We love using Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus annuus) as it is incredibly versatile and can be beneficial for many different skin issues like dry skin as well as oily, acne-prone skin. Sunflower is non-fragrant, non-comedogenic (does not clog pores) and is used as an emollient in many skincare products. Luckily for most of us it also does not cause any skin irritation.
Sunflower seed oil has on average a 60% linoleic acid content, which helps to maintain the skin’s natural barrier, allowing the skin to better replenish and strengthen. It also contains other fatty acids like oleic and stearic, and even a small amount of Omega 3 linoleic acid, which is particularly beneficial for dry, dehydrated skin.
For those with more severe skin challenges, Sunflower oil has the ability to calm and soothe the skin. Particularly for those with eczema and atopic dermatitis, Sunflower works as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and has the ability to protect against germs and bacteria, which is beneficial for those with skin allergies to prevent the skin from becoming inflamed.
